High School Volleyball Coaching (2017)

My coaching career started out of something negative as I wasn’t picked to be on the volleyball team so I decided to keep my passion alive by coaching. Soon into coaching I realized that I enjoyed coaching more than playing the sport. The planning, thinking on the fly and finding different ways to teach the same skill to a variety of different athletes are just some of the skills I got to explore. After one season I knew I had more to learn and my mentor saw the potential in me which gave me the confidence to try more and learn more.
Kamloops Volleyball Association (2018)

After getting some practice in coaching I decided to be a co-coach for Kamloops Volleyball Association. While many of my roles were the same as coaching at the highschool level, the interactions I had with the parents and other coaches were different. This made me work on my professional development and ability to communicate in appropriate parent friendly language. This was a challenge for me being so young taking on a role where I was in charge with communication and clarity. Through this I now feel more comfortable approaching difficult parents and situations with a sense of ease and professionality.
Dallas Elementary School (2021)
Volunteering at Dallas Elementary was my first experience viewing a classroom in motion and it solidified my desire to become a teacher. Seeing the students’ excitement to learn, the teachers ability to meet the needs of all and seeing how all the different components work together made me want to be there everyday. The one thing this experience brought forward was just the unpredictability everyday brings. Being a teacher requires your full attention for six hours of the day and one must be ready for anything to happen. Being aware and ready is something that I would hopefully learn through the upcoming practicums.
