Weyt-kp, My name is Kaylea Prosser and I am currently in my first year in the Bachelor of Education at Thompson Rivers University. Although it is my first year in the education program at Thompson Rivers University, it is my fourth year of post secondary education. I am working towards getting my undergrad degree in Bachelor of General Arts with concentrations in English and Sociology. My undergrad degree will help me immensely in the teaching profession as I have the ability to be a reflective practitioner who understands the variety of sources that influence individuals.
I was born and raised in Kamloops and have learned so much about myself from this beautiful city. From playing soccer all across the city, to attending elementary, high school and now university I am extremely privileged that one day I might be able to teach here as well. I come from a large family of seven kids as well as foster children. My mom’s career as a foster parent allowed me to practice my teaching without even knowing I was. I am so grateful for my mom’s career as it allowed me to develop many skills that are transferable to my future career.

Another asset that I bring to the classroom is my traveling and coaching experience. In my free time I enjoy traveling, whether it be small trips exploring the interior of British Columbia or going on a plane and exploring countries in Europe. I have been privileged enough to have explored seven countries in Europe, Mexico, Eastern Canada as well as the west coast of the United States of America. In the future I would love to travel to South America as well as Africa, in order to experience cultures and traditions that are quite unknown to me. When I am not traveling you can find me playing any kind of sport as well as coaching it. Growing up I was able to explore any sport I found interesting. I stuck to three main sports, being basketball, soccer and volleyball. While I continue to play soccer in an adult league in Kamloops, basketball and volleyball I do not play anymore. Although I am not playing I still do help out and coach volleyball when extra support is needed.
Once I am completed with my degrees, my goal is to teach abroad and gather new memories as well as experience before coming back to Canada and hopefully settle down on the island, teaching grades 4-5.
The current BC curriculum is the best version yet, as it allows the teachers to have agency to teach the lessons they feel would enhance the curricular competencies and big ideas. As a teacher candidate it is scary to have full reign on what we are allowed to teach without a guiding structure on potential lessons or units. This 2015 version of the BC curriculum also allows for more collaboration between teachers, as teachers can use their colleagues strengths and create finer tuned lessons. This collaboration with colleagues takes away some of the fear of entering the profession not knowing what to teach or what lessons to do with what grade.
